Tears of a Tiger
Tears of a
Tiger, by Sharon M. Draper, is telling about what tragedy can come when you
drink and drive. Andy Jackson had been drinking one night, but he still drove
in his car, along with three of his friends. Later that night, the car crashed
and burst in to flames, killing Andy’s best friend, and the captain of the
basketball team Robbie Washington. Now, Andy lives with the guilt of driving
the car that killed his best friend.
The boys of the Hazelwood High School had a tremendous victory
in their basketball game. A few of the boys wanted to celebrate their victory
some ice cold brew. Andy Jackson offered his friends a ride to go get the beer,
and drink it.
Andy
was the driver and Robert was sitting in the passenger's seat, meanwhile the
other two boys were sitting in the back. Having fun they all got drunk except
for B.J. Before they knew it there was a big wall in front of Andy's car. Tyrone
and B.J jumped out of the car and helped Andy jump out too. Robbie had his feet
up on the dashboard and when the car crash happened his feet had got stuck in
the front window. Andy and B.J climbed on the roof of the car to help Robbie,
and then they heard a heavy thick sound, like an explosion and the next thing
they knew Andy and B.J were blown off of the car's roof. Robbie was still stuck
into the car yelling for help. Out of nowhere, the car burst into flames, and
Robbie began to scream “Oh Gods no! Don’t let me die like this!
Weeks passed before Andy came back to school, when he came back his coach
asked him if he was ok. A few days
later, Andy was named captain of the basketball team, but that still didn’t make
him feel better, plus he began to make bad grades.
